"We go the distance"
Our Story
Blue Tern Home Care was built on a simple belief:
People deserve care from those who truly understand their community — because real care only works when trust comes first.
Not quite a year before starting Blue Tern, Brett transitioned companies within the personal care industry. At the same time, we were already having conversations about how “city people” often don’t understand how small towns really work — half joking that you need a passport to travel between the two worlds. But behind the humor was something serious: rural communities were being served by systems designed for urban environments, and the people here deserved better.
One day, sitting outside an office during interviews, Tara finally said what everyone was thinking:
“If this one doesn’t work out, we need to be in a position to start our own company — because the people here need someone who actually cares and understands how this community works.”
That moment planted the seed for Blue Tern Home Care.

The Leap of Faith
That seed became reality in March of 2020 — when the world shut down.
During the early days of COVID, Brett was let go from his position as uncertainty swept through healthcare and companies scrambled to figure out what in-home care would even look like. Suddenly, we weren’t just thinking about starting a company someday — we were trying to feed our kids in a world that felt upside down.
We knew home care mattered. We knew our community needed it. And we took a leap of faith that if we showed up for our community, our community would show up for us.
They did.
Our Mission
At our core, we want people to know:
-
There is help for those who feel alone.
-
There is care for those without family or support.
-
There are people willing to go the distance — not just to provide care, but to truly improve lives.
And someday, when our kids are grown, we hope that when people hear our family name and Blue Tern Home Care in the same sentence, it means something — because the company is still here, still trusted, and still serving communities the way they deserve to be served.
That’s the legacy we’re building

The Owners
Tara
Brett was raised in Price, Utah, where service and community shaped his values from an early age. His journey into healthcare began as a CNA and progressed to LPN and RN, giving him broad experience across care settings and a deep appreciation for compassionate, patient-centered care. Nursing became a natural calling—allowing him to serve people during their most vulnerable moments while building meaningful relationships with patients, families, and care teams.
The more Brett gives through caregiving, the more hope he feels for the world and the future his children will inherit. Service isn’t just what he does—it’s who he is.

Born and raised in Carbon County, I have deep roots in Castle Valley and was taught early on to help wherever I could. Whether it was watching my dad quietly step in to help a struggling family at the store or spending my own days driving hundreds of miles to get kids to and from activities, service has always been part of who I am.
I founded Blue Tern Home Care because I was tired of seeing outsiders with no real ties to our community claim to care while putting profit first.
